Practice Standards

The designation holders have met a rigorous set of standards that includes documented levels of relevance, professional education, and experience, as well as competence in the areas of trucking business operations, trucking dispatching, trucking safety and compliance, transportation management, logistics, trucking business technology and professional ethics. These requirements are demonstrated and validated through the successful completion of CITBM certification process.

The CITBM brand represents the unwavering commitment of members of the institute and designation holders to stay at the forefront of the ever-changing trucking business, regulations, logistics and transportation trends in Canada and internationally.

The association’s commitment to the aforementioned objectives is a tangible statement of global best practice, and full strategic plan to advance trucking business profession and the chartered institute of trucking business management credential to meet the trucking, transportation and allied logistics needs of the industry, today and tomorrow.

We will continue to build CITBM designations to reflect its well-earned place in the world of road transportation and global logistics, together with all the associated services, in Canada and internationally. As the first professional body of its kind for professionals in the trucking industry, the integrity of the CITBM certification will be protected by the demanding qualification process and upheld by our code of ethics and professional standards in the public interest.

Code of Ethics

These codes of ethics are guides and principles designed to help trucking business professionals conduct their business honestly and with integrity. This can also be referred to as "ethical code," may encompass areas such as business ethics, a code of professional practice and an employee code of conduct.

These are stipulated in our mission and vision statement, which primarily focus on the numerous benefits to our members, the industry, professional partners, government, and the general public. This requires that CITBM is always operated and in all ways for "public benefit," and that the activities of the organization shall NOT "inure to the benefit" of private individuals.

CITBM™ shall promote ethical principles through practices and standards for excellence, tailored for non-profits, and fundraising practices (within the board of directors) are ethical and legal, proceeds directed towards development of our members, the institute and the interest of the public.

  • Law abiding.
  • Willingness and desire for excellence.
  • Relationship building. Members must earn the trust of all critical stakeholders in the value chain of the trucking business ecosystem.
  • Must not engage in activity that may bring the name of the Institute into disrepute.
  • Must continuously seek knowledge and professional development.
  • Must be truthful and above-board in all professional business dealings.
  • Must adhere strictly to safety and compliance issues has stipulated by laws and regulations.

A comprehensive ethics audit will help to assess the extent to which CITBM™ practices, procedures, and policies put in place to protect clients, identify ethics-related risks, and prevent ethics complaints and ethics-related litigation, are followed. This periodic exercise is established to improve trust and confidence both internally and externally. We must be sure CITBM™ is organised and structured from a not-for-profit legal perspective.
